Adult BMI Calculator
Enter weight and height to estimate Body Mass Index, then see the adult classification commonly used for screening in Malaysia.
What BMI means
Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in metres squared. It is widely used as a quick screening measure for adults.
A single BMI number does not describe overall health. Two people can have the same BMI with different body composition, fitness or medical history.
How this calculator works
This page uses the standard formula: BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². The result is rounded to one decimal place.
Classification follows the adult cut-offs in the Ministry of Health Malaysia Clinical Practice Guidelines on the Management of Obesity, Second Edition 2023. These Malaysian screening bands are tighter than the commonly quoted Western 25 / 30 cut-offs.
Limitations
This calculator does not estimate disease risk, takaful eligibility, underwriting outcome or contribution.
BMI can be less informative for athletes, older adults, pregnancy, or anyone whose weight includes a higher muscle mass. A health professional can interpret the number in context.

Common questions
Why does Malaysia use different adult BMI cut-offs?
Malaysia’s obesity CPG uses lower adult screening thresholds than the widely quoted 25 / 30 bands. This page follows that local clinical guideline for adult screening, not a Western default.
Does a higher BMI mean I cannot apply for takaful?
No. This tool does not assess eligibility, quotation or underwriting. Those decisions belong to the relevant official process if you later choose to proceed.
